FAQ’s Headache

Does my child need a brain scan?

Children with classical migraine and tension headaches do not need a brain scan. However, if there are other symptoms that alert the doctor towards a more sinister diagnosis, then brain a scan will be necessary. Such symptoms include fever, persisting unremitting headache, visual loss, seizures, unsteadiness, limb weakness, or decline in school performance.

Is my child having a brain tumour?

Children with tumours in the brain have a different character of headache. Moreover, they would have other symptoms, such as persisting unremitting headache, visual loss, seizures, unsteadiness, and a decline in school performance.

Will my child become dependent on his or her medications?

Children with frequent migraine headaches may be prescribed prophylactic treatment to reduce the number of headaches they experience.

The medicines are not addictive, do not make the child weak, and do not cause the child to be dependent on them.

Are ‘brain tonics’ helpful for children with headache?

There are many natural, herbal or traditional products and remedies reputed to have ‘brain tonic’ or curative properties for children with brain disorders. Please consult your local doctor before giving these products to your children, as some products may interfere with your children’s medications.
